SHARKS OF SAN FRANCISCO BAY: What We Know, What We’re Learning, And How You Can Take Part

Shark Lovers: You’ve Been Waiting for This One!

Each fall, white sharks gather off our Bay Area coast. We’re gathering over science and suds for a special BONUS Ocean Hoptimism on October 1.

Our focus? The sharks sharing our backyard—and how YOU can help study and protect them.

What makes San Francisco Bay important for sharks, rays, and skates—our beloved “flat sharks”? What pressures do they face? And where do you fit in?

We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Meghan Holst, marine scientist and Co-Founder & President of Ocean Science Expedition Academy (OSEA), for Sharks of San Francisco Bay: What We Know, What We’re Learning, and How You Can Take Part.

Through her affiliation with UC Davis, Dr. Holst investigates the Bay’s importance as a reproductive area and threats from contaminants and environmental stressors. Through OSEA, she opens pathways for our local community to participate in research and develop real field skills.

Join us Thursday, October 1, for sharks, citizen science, and community.

Bring a friend. Bring your curiosity.

Come for the sharks. Stay for the school of new friends.
